This is the World Cup of surprise results so far as, on Sunday, the holders fell to defeat.
So, it's no surprise that our Comrade of the Day from Matchday Four comes from the Mexican side that beat Germany. It seems unfair to pick one of these players out, such was the quality of the team display from those in green playing in Moscow on Sunday afternoon.
However, with the execution of the decisive goal and a lively performance all-game, we have to go with PSV's Hirving Lozano as our pick of the players. Pace and intensity were what he gave his side all afternoon as this counter-attacking side sprung a surprise on their illustrious counterparts.
His goal, sure to be a famous one in Mexican football folklore for a long time to come, was the result of a well-executed break. Zipping across the turf at the Luzhniki Stadium, a trio of Mexican attackers exposed both Hummels and Boateng, before Lozano isolated and skinned Mesut Ozil.
Smashing the ball past no lesser goalkeeper than Manuel Neuer, the goal was not only well-taken but well-deserved too, as the amazing Mexican support rejoiced, cheering the name of our Comrade of the Day.
