The Super Eagles have taken flight.
Eager to be not just the best-dressed team in Russia, but also a competitive one on the field, yesterday was a fine day for Nigeria and in particular, Ahmed Musa.
The CSKA Moscow cult hero is our fitting Comrade of the Day for Matchday Nine as his two well-taken strikes earned Nigeria their first points of the tournament. A poor performance against Croatia had cast doubts about the Super Eagles who came into the tournament with more people speaking about their kit than their players. But all that changes with a win and that's what Musa's strikes helped them to against Iceland.
The first was a scorcher. The striker plucked a ball out of the air on the volley, before hitting it after watching it bounce off of the Russian turf - no chance for Hannes Halldorsson who saved Messi's penalty last week.
For his second goal he showed all of the composure needed to succeed at this level, all of which was lost in jubilant celebrations for both goals. For bringing one of the most vibrant teams in the tournament to life on Matchday Nine, Ahmed Musa is our Comrade of the Day.
